Bill Shaver
Bill Shaver got his start in Statesboro as a four-sport athlete at Southeast Bulloch High School, where he was Valedictorian of his Senior class. Shaver would play football as a four-year letterman at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. But it was after his playing days were completed that Shaver would create a legacy as a football coach. He was quarterback coach at Statesboro High and Presbyterian College before becoming the offensive coordinator for Thomas County Central High School in 1994. Along with legendary head coach Ed Pilcher, Shaver would help develop the Yellow Jacket’s split-back veer into one of the most feared offenses in Georgia state football history. Under his watch, the Central offense would be an integral part of state championships in 1994, 1996, 1997, and runner-up in 2002.
When Coach Pilcher left Central in 2007, Shaver was selected as the Yellow Jackets head coach, and would lead his teams to an overall 74-40 record, two region championships, and was named Region Coach of the Year twice. During Shaver’s time as a head coach, he helped over 40 athletes earn football scholarships to play at the next level. He worked with Coach Justin Rogers at Colquitt County, and currently is an assistant coach for the Central program that went 15-0 and won the 2023 6-A state championship.
