Dicana Harris Laurent
One of the great names in Thomas County Central track history, Dicana Harris began her running career by placing 3rd in the Heritage Run when she was just 10 years old.
She won the Region 1-AAA cross country title as a Yellow Jacket freshman - a title she would win again her senior year in 1995. She also would win the one-mile and two-mile region crowns. She ran track for all four years in high school, and still holds school records for the 1600 meters and 3200 meters.
A solid student in the classroom at Central as well, Dicana stayed on the A/B honor roll throughout her high school career, and was a senior superlative, voted by her classmates as ‘Most Athletic’ for her class.
Dicana would secure a scholarship to run at Valdosta State University, where she was voted ‘Most Outstanding Freshman” on the Lady Blazer track team.
She worked for 10 years for the Department of Family & Children Services in Fulton County helping families become self-sufficient, and currently works in management in Alpharetta.
