Jenny Johnson
Already a member of the Mitchell County Sports Hall of Fame, Jenny Johnson has also left an indelible mark on the sports scene in Thomasville/Thomas County. Described by Ed Pilcher as ‘a real coach,’ with fourteen 20-win seasons in 30 years of coaching girls’ basketball, including stints at Pelham, Crisp County, and Thomas County Central High School, including numerous region titles and state playoff appearances. Johnson finished her career with 505 victories.
After winding down her basketball career, Johnson would be instrumental with assisting the Thomasville Scholar’s Academy in the creation of their first ever physical education program, including archery, bowling, fishing and other activities. With no money available in the budget for P.E. equipment, she would purchase those first needed supplies out of her own pocket.
Still active in guiding area youth, Johnson helps meet the needs of anyone who needs a helping hand, including mentoring new teachers in their new profession.
