LEARN TO SWIM

Pre-school Swim Lesson Programcoach teaching a child to swim

Drowning is the second leading cause of preventable childhood death, but the Thomasville YMCA’s Pre-K program, Learn to Swim teaches young children swimming and life-saving skills in and around water. Lessons start the first week in January and continue until the end of April of every year. The program includes 8 free lessons with a time of thirty-five minutes of instruction and five minutes of free swimming. The program covers Boating Safety, Emergency Procedures, Sun Protection, Non-Entry water rescues, How to dial 911, and also an entire Safety Day in the eight lessons.

The Thomasville YMCA Pre-K program serves close to three hundred kids each year. Local schools that the Y has served include Brookwood School, Hand-in-Hand, Harper School, Scott Elementary, and Jerger Elementary School. Also local church school Pre-K programs including St. Thomas, First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, and First Presbyterian Church.
